Amateur Boxers Compete In Tulsa's Golden Gloves Match For Shot At Nationals

Boxers from all over the state are in Tulsa this weekend for the annual Golden Gloves match.

Amateur boxers compete to qualify in regionals, then fight to earn their spots at nationals later this year.

Aaron Sloan is the owner of The Engine Room in Tulsa, which hosts the event.

Sloan said he wants the boxers to learn sportsmanship too, not just how to win.

"if you watch amateur boxing it's a lot different than what people would see on TV with professionals," Sloan said. "You'll see these guys get in and give everything they have and then hug after the fights are over with and people are always surprised that guys would get in and fight and then end up hugging each other."

The Engine Room has hosted the state Golden Gloves since 2018
