Norman to name street for James Garner

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- A street in Norman is being renamed to honor actor James Garner.

The Norman City Council has voted to change the name of Front Avenue to James Garner Avenue and a section of Main Street will be called James Garner Corridor.

Garner was born James Bumgarner in 1928 in the Norman area and lived in Norman as a youth.

He's planning to attend events during James Garner Week from April 16th through 22nd. The ceremonies will include the unveiling of a statue of the actor in James Garner Plaza.

Garner has starred in numerous movies and television series, but may be best known for the TV shows "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files."
