State Treasurer helps residents find unclaimed property

Folks headed to the Tulsa State Fair may want to stop by one booth that could end up putting money in your pocket.

This is the first year the state treasurer's office has set up a booth in Tulsa to help people search for unclaimed property. The state has $179-million that belong to Oklahomans. That includes things like uncashed paychecks, royalties, rebates, and old bank accounts.
The cash and property are turned over to the treasurer's office when businesses holding them can't find the owners.

The treasurer's booth is set up in the Expo Building on the lower level. State treasurer Scott Meacham: "Nothing to lose, it doesn't cost you anything. We just type your name in and see if we have any money for you."

So far this year, the booth in Tulsa has helped folks track down $60,000 owed to them.
