Clearing The Path To Oklahoma's Birthday

A bunch of Boy Scouts are pitching in to clear the way for visitors. The boys and dads from Troop One were the first construction crew to be on the site of the botanical garden. They cut down some of the shrubbery to build a five-foot-wide path. They will be back a few more times to remove some of the extra debris, and in return for all of that hard work, they’ll go home with a wealth of knowledge.

“They're learning about the cross timbers, which is where the eastern forest meets the western prairie, and it is an ecosystem unlike any in the world. Some of the trees out here are hundreds of years old. They are one of 400 species of plants," said Pearl Garrison of Centennial Botanical Gardens.

The trail and botanical garden are set to open September 8th, two months before Oklahoma’s 100th birthday.
