SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Congress is probing more deeply into the punishment given an Army officer who offended the family of former NFL star Pat Tillman, who was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan.
During an interview last year, Colonel Ralph Kauzlarich questioned the religious faith of Tillman's parents. He said on ESPN.com that the Tillman family would not accept previous Army findings in the death "because of the absence of Christian faith in their lives."
Congressmen Henry Waxman and Tom Davis, leaders of the House oversight panel, wrote General Carter Ham that they believe the remarks were crass, insulting and totally inappropriate. They asked how the officer has been punished.
An Army spokesman said he'd not seen their letter and couldn't comment.
