Tulsa McLain Hires Former TU Coach

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Former University of Tulsa men's basketball coach John Phillips is returning to the prep game.

Phillips will take over as head coach of Tulsa McLain High School, where he graduated in 1965.

The job was left open when Shea Seals stepped down to become head basektball coach at Tulsa's Booker -T- Washington High School.

Phillips played three seasons of varsity basketball in the McLain fieldhouse from 1962 to 1965.

The 60-year-old Phillips also has accepted a classroom teaching assignment.

In 16 seasons of coaching basketball at Broken Arrow, Stillwater, Edison, Bartlesville and Mannford, Phillips' record was 273-159.
