Serial Rapist's Sentence Brings Sense Of Relief To His Victims

Two of Graham's victims say knowing he will be locked up for rest of his life finally frees them. They say the attack is a nightmare they can finally wake up from because justice is served. With arms and feet shackled, Gary Graham shuffled to learn his fate. News On 6 anchor Latoya Simon reports the sight of the admitted serial rapist brought some to tears, but his sentence brought relief.

"I feel, I don't know, a bunch of mixed feelings, but I'm glad that he will never get out and hurt anybody else," said victim Katherine Smith.

Graham will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Up until now, Smith says she felt like she was in prison. Graham tried to rape her in 2004.

“I still can't still sleep with the window open,” said Smith. “It's still really hard for me to sleep in my house by myself. I still have nightmares."

Rebecca Hall says she couldn't sleep for a year after Graham attacked her. She was just 15.

“He had woken me up by putting his hand on my mouth, and he put a knife at my throat, and he told me don't move, don't say anything, and he raped me,” said Hall.

It's taken a long time to heal, but like Smith, Hall says she'll finally get some rest.

“It feels great,” Hall said. “It's unexplainable how much better I feel that I can go to bed and feel safe and not have to worry that okay maybe he's looking for me or he's going to find me."

Hall’s sister wrote Graham a letter. We asked her about it, and she said she told Graham to seek forgiveness and that his victims deserved peace.
