Dollar Tree recalls toy instruments because of choking hazard

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Dollar Tree Stores Inc. is recalling about 147,600 toy drums and xylophones because the ball on the end of their drumsticks can break off and pose a choking hazard to young children.

The Chesapeake, Va.-based company has not received any injury reports linked to the battery-operated musical toys, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday.

Dollar Tree and Dollar Bills stores sold the multicolored instruments nationwide for $1 from March 2004 to January 2005.

The recalled toys, made in China, came in packages with labels reading ``Light & Sound Musical Toy'' and ``Toy Tunes'' on the top and ``Try Me!'' on the bottom.

Consumers are urged to take the toys away from children and return them to the store for a refund. More information is available by calling Dollar Tree at 800-876-8077.
