New Bible version raising some eyebrows

A new Bible on store shelves is causing a controversy of its own. Today's New International Version Bible changes some of the masculine references to gender neutral translations. For example: "son" may be changed to "child." "Man" may be changed to people.

The publisher says the updated language is only used where the meaning of the original text was intended to include both men and women.

Critics say the changes are unnecessary. ORU professor Dr Robert Mansfield: "It appears the conservative religious communities and segments of the church are shying away from it and I don't think there will be any strong recommendations from those areas of Christiandom."

The TNIV originally came out with a New Testament version a few years ago. It released a version of the Old and New Testaments a couple of weeks ago.
