'Spirit of Oklahoma' heads to NYC

Updated:
The generosity of Oklahomans may end up saving lives in New York City. The 'Spirit of Oklahoma' fire truck stopped off in Grove before hitting the long road to New York City.

Oklahomans donated $380,000 to buy this heavy rescue unit. It's a tribute to the New York City Fire Department, the firefighters who helped in the Oklahoma City bombing, and died in the September 11th attacks. Retired Assistant Oklahoma City Fire Chief John Hansen, "Everyone has ownership in the 'Spirit of Oklahoma' truck. It's a wonderful thing from the heart, and from the heartland to our friends in New York City."

Oklahoma resident, Emalea Hudgens, "I think that firefighters should be given a hand because they are the heroes of our lives." The truck will stop in St. Louis, Chicago and Philadelphia on it's way to the Big Apple.

Then, on May 10th, the 'Spirit of Oklahoma' will be presented to New York City at a special ceremony in Manhattan.
