Commissioner says Grizzlies want to move if league realigns

(East Rutherford, New Jersey-AP) -- NBA commissioner David Stern says the Memphis Grizzlies want to switch conferences if the league realigns.

The Grizzlies relocated from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Memphis last season.

Stern said at a news conference Tuesday in New Jersey that the Grizzlies and the Minnesota Timberwolves both want to move to the Eastern Conference. He says they've cited travel reasons rather than competitive ones.

The teams asked to move if the NBA realigns for the 2003-2004 season. They've asked that the New Orleans Hornets move to the West.
