PARIS (AP) _ Yana Klochkova of Ukraine broke an 8-year-old world record in the women's short-course 400-meter individual medley on Saturday, with a time of 4 minutes, 27.83 seconds at a World Cup meet in Paris.
Klochkova, 19, topped the former record mark of 4 minutes 29 seconds, set by Dai Guohong of China in December 1993. The Ukrainian's record came shortly after China's Luo Xuejuan set a world record in the 50-meter breaststroke, covering the distance in 30.47 seconds.
