Semi crash closes I-40 in western Oklahoma

(Elk City-AP) -- A tractor-trailer accident has shut down westbound Interstate 40 and an overpass in Elk City.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the semi hit the overpass and caught fire.

Westbound traffic is being detoured onto State Highway Six at exit 38, then onto State Highway 152. Motorists are being allowed back onto I-40 at Sayre. Officials say they don't know how long the interstate will be closed.

Troopers say the overpass is closed until Department of Transportation officials inspect it for damage.
