Wet Summer Makes For Winter Wildfire Threat

Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The heavy rains of spring and summer are making for a threat of wildfires in the state during the winter. The rains led to lush grasses that are now brown and considered the perfect kindling for fires as the state heads into the height of wildfire season.

And the long-term forecast is calling for a warmer and drier winter than normal which would create ideal conditions for widespread wildfires.

Emergency officials are urging farmers, ranchers and homeowners to cut down brush around the homes and to consider plowing around outbuildings to create a firebreak should a fire occur.
