OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma Democratic Party is sponsoring a Support the Troops event to collect personal items requested by soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Vietnam Marine Corps veteran Ron Wasson and retired Air Force Colonel Katherine Scheirman are organizing the effort.
A committee is asking for items such as toiletries, magazines and prepaid telephone cards. They'll be boxed up Tuesday at Democratic Party Headquarters in Oklahoma City and sent to troops.
