Search For Missing Girl To Resume Wednesday Morning

Updated:
The search for 13-year-old Cori Baker’s body was suspended Tuesday night. Searchers planned to resume looking Wednesday morning. Cori's family's worst fears are being realized, as officers believe the teen was killed and dumped in the Arkansas River. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports Cori’s father was praying this would not be the way his daughter would be found.

The Tulsa Police Underwater Search and Rescue Team spent Tuesday evening dragging the river. If Cori's body was dumped in the Arkansas on Friday, it's hard to know if it could be kept in place by the strong undertow or if it could be further down river.

Officers also searched the banks by chopper and on foot, looking for anything that would confirm the things told them by the suspect in this case, 18-year-old Marquis Bullock.

Bullock was dating Cori's older sister, Courtney and police arrested him Monday night for kidnapping and murder. He was seen picking Cori up from school and blood was found in his car and on his shoes. Police say he lied twice about where he was Friday afternoon. Bullock is also the one who directed police to the river location.

The search effort is expected to resume at 8 o’clock Wednesday morning.

"By that time, hopefully, the river will have dropped some more. The corps closed the gates at Keystone Lake. It takes six to eight hours for the water to get this far. It's dropped a lot by the morning. It'll be even more and allow us to do a safe, good, thorough search,” said Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham.

Until then, Cori's family must spend another night without any answers or any peace that comes from at least having her home so she can be laid to rest.

Marquis Bullock also told police he ditched the clothes he was wearing Friday during the murder, in a trash can at the Wal-Mart at 81st and Lewis. Police did recover surveillance video from the store that confirms that part of his story.
