A Green Country family is pleading for justice after someone hit a pregnant woman and ran off.  Police say 22-year-old Amber Renfroe was hit on Saturday afternoon while standing on the side of the road near Mingo and Admiral.  The News On 6's Chris Wright reports witnesses say three people were in the white, late 1980s model Jeep Cherokee that hit Amber.  Her baby was delivered via an emergency c-section, but the child didn't survive.  Now the family is urging those responsible to turn themselves in.

"They impacted two lives just like that," said Amber's mother, Kelly Anquoe.

Anquoe is struggling to make sense of what happened to her daughter on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old, who was six months pregnant, was waiting to catch a bus in front of the Meadowbrook Apartments when she was hit.

The skid marks can be seen on the side of the road at Mingo.

Witnesses say she landed in the nearby ditch, where on Sunday friends set up an impromptu memorial.

Her family says she broke several bones, injured her spine, and may have shattered her pelvis.  Doctors performed an emergency c-section, but say her baby boy suffered major brain damage, and died Sunday evening.

Renfroe's brother-in-law was nearby when the accident happened, and has some words for those in the SUV.

"There's no reason why they should have done something like this, other than being cowards," said Jeremy Whittman.

This is the second tragedy in the past year for Renfroe and her husband.  A lung condition claimed their first daughter Samantha last May.  She was only five months old.

This child was supposed to ease the pain of that loss.

"They've been looking forward to this child since they conceived it.  They was happy that they had another one," said Whittman.

But now the family has to deal with another tragedy, and they hope those responsible for it develop a conscience.

"My little grandson didn't deserve that.  Our family is just so wounded," said Anquoe.

Anyone with information about the driver or that jeep is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS.

A family friend tells The News On 6 that the child was taken off of life support late Sunday afternoon.

Renfroe had just landed a new job.  Saturday was supposed to be her first day, and she was on her way to attend orientation.
