Kimberly Timmons decided to turn prom into a scholarship opportunity this year.

Instead of going dress shopping with her mom, the Union High School junior decided to make her outfit herself, out of duct tape that is.

"It took about 50 rolls of duct tape and between 200 and 300 hours to make it," said Kimberly Timmons.

Her hard work is in an effort to win the ‘Stuck at Prom' online contest created by the Duct tape brand.

Even her date is wearing a Duct tape outfit.

"It's very uncomfortable and tight," said Christian Price who is a Union sophomore.

Kimberly modeled her duct tape dress, which weighed in at 25 pounds. Her dates get-up weighs around 15 pounds.

Each couple must think of a theme that has never been done before. Their attire is inspired by the movie Enchanted.

The competition works like this. First the photo entries are sent to the Stuck at Prom website. All entries are due by June 11th.

Next, the top 10 entries, chosen by a panel of judges, are posted online for the public's vote. The voting on the website takes place between June 13th and ends June 29th. The winners will be announced July 1st.

The overall first prize winning couple will each receive a $3,000 scholarship. The school that hosted the first prize winning couple's prom will also receive $3,000 in cash. Second and third place entries receive cash prizes as well.

One of the most challenging elements of the contest Kimberly says is putting the dress on.

"First put the skirt over your head which is kind of strange because you have to jump up and down to get through it then you just put the shirt on and then you just tape it on to your body, well not tape it to your body, but tape it together," said Timmons.

The online voting starts June 13th. Kimberly is confident that the couple will do well.

"Well so far from what I've heard from everybody either second or first prize," said Kimberly Timmons. "So vote for us."
