Several inches of rain pounded Green Country late Sunday night and Monday morning. Many areas are already saturated from continuous severe thunderstorms over the last couple of weeks.

In Claremore, heavy rain stranded cars and flooded neighborhoods. Some families had to be rescued from their homes.

Three families in a Claremore neighborhood were shaken out of bed to find rain inside their home. Kevin Hisey says even though there was only a couple of inches inside of his house, several feet of water covered the street outside.

Hisey was able to grab his family and use their canoe to make it to dry land.

"We got down to the end of the street and the firemen were down there. And we just said, 'you can use the canoe' or whatever and so they just kind of slowly went and woke up the neighbors and got them," said flood victim, Kevin Hisey.

Fire crews were able to rescue two other families with the canoe, including Virginia Ashbrook and her husband.

The couple's seen four floods during their 30 years in their quiet neighborhood, but nothing like this. The water got as high as 15-inches before it receded. The couple's personal car was damaged, along with many of their treasured items but Virginia says they'll mourn and move on.

Margaret White is another victim of that powerful storm. A large tree crashed through her kitchen overnight, giving her the skylight she never wanted. Fortunately, she and other residents we spoke with have insurance.

Elsewhere Claremore officials say hundreds of residents were without power at the height of the storm. Flash flooding caused several drivers to become stranded and four of them had to be rescued. With more rain in the forecast, residents are encouraged to hold on.
