Ribbon Cutting For Glass Plant

When the Ford Glass Plant in Tulsa made plans to shut down, a local businessman made sure those jobs stayed in Green Country. Now, the upgraded plant is known as Zeledyne.

NewsOn6.com anchor Margaret Stokes reports a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Zeledyne. Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor was on hand to celebrate the new glass float furnace.

Zeledyne purchased the float glass business from Ford in April. About 600 employees work at the plant.

On Tuesday, the ceremony was in honor of the upgraded float-furnace which cost a pretty penny at $30 million. The furnace runs non-stop. It heats to a very warm 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Zeledyne believes this upgrade will allow glass production to continue in Green Country for another twelve years. Both automotive and architectural glass is produced there and then shipped worldwide.

Local businessman Robert Price hopes to continue the legacy that the Ford Glass Plant first started.

"We see such great opportunity here at Zeledyne to grow and expand the business. We see Zeledyne as a world leader for fine architectural glass," said Robert Price, Board Chairman.
