Drinking Water Warning For Pawnee County

Pawnee Rural Water District 4 is warning its customers to boil their water before using it. 

E-coli bacteria were found in the the water supply on June 12.  These bacteria can make people sick and are a particular threat to people with weakened immune systems.

E-coli indicates that the water is contaminated with human or animal wastes.  The Pawnee Rural Water District 4 is flushing its lines and will then re-test the water.  They hope to resolve the problem within three to ten days.

In the meantime, customers should boil their water for at least one minute, then let it cool before using.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.

E-coli symptoms include:

• Diarrhea
• Cramps
• Nausea
• Headaches
