One person died and another person was critically injured in a Rogers County traffic accident early Thursday.

The accident happened shortly before 5 a.m. on state Highway 266 or Port Road near 145th East Avenue.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the driver of a blue Mustang, 26-year old Ryan Mitchell, may have fallen asleep as he was headed eastbound. The car went left of center and hit the rear tires of a semi-trailer and lost control.

The Mustang then hit another vehicle head-on killing the 54-year-old driver of that vehicle.  OHP troopers say that victim has been identified as Paul Field of Chelsea.

Ryan Mitchell was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital in serious condition.

As a result of the accident, Port Road was closed for about 3 hours.
