Tulsa Police arrest the man they believe car-jacked a van and sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl who was inside. The News On 6's crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports the police chief says this was a case of good old fashioned police work at its best.
Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer says he's proud of the officers who worked so hard and the citizens who helped them and that's why they were able to make an arrest just 18 hours after the crime.
It all started around midnight when a man forced a mother out of her van. He jumped in and took off. Three children were inside. They were ages eight, three and one.
Police say they were able to trail the man about two hours later, but he bailed out and ran off and they lost track of him. That's when they realized the eight year old had been sexually assaulted.
Officers went back out to where he bailed out and a citizen pointed out a man who fit the description. Officers realized that man, 25-year-old Brandon Brixey, was wanted, so they took him downtown and after questioning, decided to arrest him for the kidnapping and sexual assault.
"I think it shows citizens the renewed enthusiasm we have for getting the job done, putting the worst of the worst in jail and making sure fighting crime is priority one," said Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer.
Brixey is being booked into jail on complaints of kidnapping, rape, auto theft and other charges.
The girl he sexually assaulted is in the hospital recovering.
Police tell The News On 6 they will now be looking at other similar crimes to see if Brixy could be a suspect in those as well.
