Not everyone's happy about the plan to pay for a new stadium downtown. Some downtown property owners filed a petition in District Court. They want a judge to stop the City Council from implementing a change in the tax rate.

The council voted to eliminate the current tax rate which ranges from one cent per square foot to three and a half cents, depending on how close the property is to the old Main Street Mall. Under the council's new plan, the tax rate would be the same all over, six and a half cents per square foot.

City leaders are working to build a stadium downtown to keep the Drillers in Tulsa. They only have until Tuesday to strike a deal. After that, the exclusive negotiating contract is up and other cities could try to make a deal with the Drillers.
