You might say, 'there's something in the air.' Rising gas prices are fueling renewed interest in wind energy.

Wind farms are cropping up across the countryside, and a majority of the massive towers are manufactured right here in Tulsa.

DMI Industries General Manager Kevin Ishmael is optimistic about the plant's future.

"You know the wind's going to blow," explains Ishmael. "One day in Oklahoma we get what is required - about thirteen miles an hour - to turn one of the big, huge turbines; and the next day we get fifty, sixty mile an hour winds. So it's a great corridor for it and we're sitting right in the middle of it."

DMI picked Tulsa as the location for its multi-million dollar facility because of its proximity to the windy midwest states which are destined to be the sites for many of the country's wind farms.

DMI is attracting skilled workers eager for the challenge of rebuilding the nation's power supply.

"The biggest thing we hear when people come to our job fairs and they fill out their applications is that they really, truly want to be a part of something that their children will reap the benefits of," said Ishmael.
