Tulsa State Fair Rolls Out

TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa State Fair is underway and hundreds of thousands of fair-goers are expected to flock to the fairgrounds over the next 10 days.

There's new fair food, new exhibits, new buildings and even the midway has a new look. 

Folks are already streaming onto the midway in search of those things so uniquely fair from the deep fried to what could be called the deeply disturbing. It's a place the young and young at heart can all enjoy.

"It's fun, the only thing I can tell you this is the only place that you can go back and feel like a kid again. And the food of course," said Sharon Mims.

The old fair favorites are there, but there are a couple of new features this year.

The only thing you'll see overhead is the sky ride, electricity lines were buried under the newly paved midway and workers were down to the wire finishing new buildings like the Exchange Center.

"It did everything, got done and we're super excited to open the exchange center and our first event to be the Tulsa State Fair," said Fair spokesperson, Amanda Blair.

And this promises to be a good year for the fair, the weather seems to be cooperating and organizers say even the shaky economy is working in their favor.

"With the economy being down, we're looking at it, ya know stay in Tulsa. Spend your economic dollar at the community's largest event. And it's such a great value," said Blair.

There are a number of discount tickets available to the fair.  But, if you aren't able to take advantage of those deals, it will cost you $8 for gate admission.  Children six-to-12 can get tickets for $5.   Kids under six are eligible for free admission.  Those over age 62 or a member of the military can get tickets for $4.

The Tulsa State Fair wraps up on October 5th.
