Traffic Deaths Down 9 Percent In Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- With only one week left in 2008, Oklahoma is on pace to dramatically decrease the number of people killed in traffic fatalities.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says that 678 people have died on Oklahoma roads this year, compared to 749 through the same time last year. That's a decrease of nine percent.

The OHP is encouraging drivers to buckle up and drive defensively. While there were only two traffic deaths during the busy holiday season last year, there were 18 in 2006.
