BROKEN ARROW, OK -- The city of Broken Arrow says it has selected the Connect-CTY to communicate with residents regarding time-sensitive incidents, which may include planned and unforeseen public safety matters.

The city will conduct its first community wide test call on January 13.

In a news release Monday, officials say the CNS will allow the city to record, send and track personalized voice messages to thousands of residents, businesses and local agencies in just minutes, through a single phone call.

The city can also send text messages to cell phones, PDAs and e-mail accounts.

"The city is always looking for ways to keep its residents well informed," said Stephen Bradley, communications director and deputy director of emergency management. "The Community Notification System will allow for greater flexibility when announcing pertinent information to the public."

City administrators can target messages to an unlimited number of groups.

"The city plans to use the CNS to inform residents of time-sensitive information, such as severe weather warnings, road closure information and other important city notifications," Bradley said. "I strongly urge residents to register their contact information into the secure CNS database to make sure they are ready to receive important information at any given time."

Publicly available residential and business phones in Broken Arrow will automatically be included in the system.
