Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce

Don McClellan from the Hard Rock has a recipe for making barbecue sauce Dr. Pepper.

Ingredients

• Butter, unsalted 3 oz.

• Garlic, minced 5 cloves

• Yellow Onion, minced 1 medium

• Ketchup 1 ½ cups

• Vinegar, Cider ½ cup

• Brown Sugar, Light ¾ cup

• Worcestershire Sauce

• Tomato Paste ¼ cup

• Chipotle Powder 3 tsp.

• Salt, Kosher 1 tsp. as needed

• Black Pepper, Ground 1 tsp. as needed

• Dr. Pepper, Can 12 oz.

Directions

1. Heat butter in a medium sauce pot over medium heat. Add garlic and onions and cook until translucent and soft (approx 6-8 minutes).

2. Add tomato paste and cook until it begins to caramelize (approx 3-4 minutes)

3. Add ketchup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire, chile, salt, pepper, and Dr. Pepper.

4. Bring to a simmer, and allow sauce to cook and thicken, approx 30-40 minutes.

5. Serve immediately or cool and refrigerate until use.

Yield: 2 cups
