A convicted rapist has confessed to choking, beating and hanging another inmate.

Pittsburg County prosecutors charged Shawn Sharp with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Bobby Bailey.

A correctional officer at the state penitentiary in McAlester was conducting a cell check when Sharp confessed to killing Bailey.

Sharp was serving a 35-year sentence for a kidnapping and rape case out of Okmulgee County.
