ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) _ A 90-year-old woman whose mobile home was flattened when tornadoes swept through the state over the weekend died of her injuries Tuesday, becoming the storm's only known fatality.

The tornadoes damaged more than 500 homes late Friday in the Clovis area where Heleneta Blevins lived near the Texas border.

``She had a terrible blow to the head and they don't know what hit her or how it happened or anything, but she was unconscious then and never did regain consciousness,'' her son-in-law, Jimmy Denton, told The Associated Press. He said she died Tuesday morning.

At least 16 tornadoes hit the area, damaging homes, roads and businesses, and snapping power lines.

The worst damage was reported in Clovis and the village of Logan about 80 miles to the north. Initial assessments showed more than 500 homes were damaged with 75 classified as destroyed, and some 35 people were injured.

Walter Cravy, also 90, remained in critical condition Tuesday at the Covenant-Lakeside Hospital in Lubbock, according to a hospital employee and a family member. Several others injured by the tornadoes were released.
