Tulsa Police said officers shot and killed a man they said rammed into a police SUV and then tried to run officers over at a hotel near Pine and Garnett.

Tulsa Police said this suspect led them on a chase Wednesday.

Police said the man they killed was known to steal cars and have weapons. Investigators are looking into whether the truck he used to run into them with was also stolen.

Police said they shot the driver of the pickup, who crashed into the side of a Tulsa hotel and tried to run over officers.

What happened Thursday afternoon near Pine and Garnett sent Ricky Flory running for his life.

"I had seen the red pickup truck ram the white unmarked car with the damage to it, and then I heard the gunshots going off and everything," Flory said.

Tulsa Police said this deadly shooting along a row of hotels stems from Wednesday's pursuit with the same suspect in a different vehicle. Officers lost sight of the suspect then. On Thursday, Tulsa Police Officer Jeanne Pierce said police found the suspect from the chase in the truck and tried to arrest him.

"The officers gave him commands to get out of the pickup truck and that's when he rammed one of the officer's police cars," Pierce said. "The officers then exited the vehicles and the suspect attempted to run the officers over."

Police said that's when four officers fired shots, then ran to their SUV's to take cover. Officers took the suspect out of the truck to perform CPR, but the man died at the scene.

"He was a known auto theft suspect, he also was known to have a weapon, so that's probably one of the reasons why the situation unfolded the way it did," Pierce said.

No officers were hurt and all four officers who fired shots are on administrative leave, standard procedure after a shooting.

Police said someone was in the hotel room that the truck crashed into, but that person is OK.

Names of those involved have not been released.

Police said the suspect was Native American, and due to the recent Supreme Court ruling, the FBI will take over the investigation.
