A new park is coming to Broken Arrow in about a year.

The City Council in Broken Arrow just awarded a bid for the construction of a new park that will be on 209th East Avenue between Albany and Omaha Street. It will be next to a new detention pond where construction just started on the west side of the road.

City leaders say the park will have a playground, picnic tables, and a splash pad and will cost about $650,000. That money comes from GO Bonds and Parks and Recreation capital funds.

The park will also have shaded areas, concrete plazas, and trails that will connect to a trail around the detention facility. Plans for the park also include options to incorporate green infrastructure into the site.

The city says construction will start soon and will take about a year to complete.
