It’s that time of year when flowers and plants begin to bloom, but some of those beautiful blossoms can do more harm than good to our environment.
The Bradford Pear may look like a beautiful tree with little white blossoms, but its beauty is about the only thing appealing about it.
Unfortunately for Green Country, they're everywhere.
"You'll see these things littering fields, overtaking meadows,” Kaden Jackson, owner of the Route 66 Tree Service, said.
Jackson has made it his mission to chop them all down.
According to the Oklahoma State Natural Resources Extension, Bradford Pears are considered invasive species and are harmful to the environment and could potentially cause damage to your home or car because they break so easily and can fall.
“All it takes is one good gust and half that tree will have fallen on whatever it may be,” Jackson said.
After the job is done, Jackson always makes sure to replace it with something just as pretty, but less harmful.
He likes to plant native trees to Oklahoma like the Eastern Red Bud.
"That's the state tree, it's native to the area, and it blooms just like a Bradford pear, but they won't grow crazy out of proportion, and they won't create a poor structure through it's growth,” Jackson said.
It may seem like a lot of work; Jackson wouldn't have it any other way.
"I can't complain, you get to wake up, do the thing you love with your friends, it's honestly a great thing to be in,” Jackson said
