A LeFlore County family is grieving after investigators said a man staged a car crash to try to cover up a murder.

Matthew Rekart is charged with killing a woman police said was in a romantic relationship with his wife.

First responders went to what they thought was the scene of a car accident, but they quickly realized the minimal damage to the car did not line up with Shayla Grant's deadly injuries.

First responders also noticed a dash camera on the car, which later gave investigators insight into what happened.

Pictures of Shayla Grant fill her mother and stepfather's home in Westville.

“To hurt someone like her, or anybody, I don't understand it. It doesn't make any sense,” Robert McClure told our CBS affiliate, KFSM.

Robert and Shana McClure said Shayla was an artist and loved sneakers.

Investigators said earlier this month in the small town of Pocola, Grant was murdered, found dead by first responders at a scene that did not make sense to them. An arrest affidavit said Grant was found in the driver's seat of the car.

"I don't know how to feel right now,” Shana said. “I've got a lot of anger, a lot of rage, a lot of sadness, a lot of questions: why?"

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said the dash camera video from Grant’s car shows it crashing into a red pipe fence, at some point after leaving Matthew Rekart’s house.

Investigators said the dash camera video also shows Rekart walking around when the car was stopped.

Rekart's arrest affidavit said an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper looked at the airbag data in Shayla's car, and found it did not go off, and the car was only going 12 miles an hour.

"Grant died of multiple blunt force injuries and trauma to her head, which was not consistent with a low-speed motor vehicle accident,” Gerald Davidson with OSBI said to our CBS affiliate, KFSM.

Investigators said Rekart's wife, Tiffany, was running an errand in Fort Smith during the time Grant was killed.
