Annual 'Rooster Egg Hunt' Kicks Off Ahead Of Rooster Days In Broken Arrow

Starting this week, people are searching across Broken Arrow as part of the Rooster Egg Hunt.

It's a tradition leading up to the annual Rooster Days Festival in May and the first clue was announced Monday morning.

This event builds anticipation for the four-day-long Rooster Days Festival in Broken Arrow.

It's been a part of the community for decades with clues released each day leading up to the festival.

Sponsor J. David Jewelry announced the first clue to kick off the Egg Hunt. The person who finds the egg will receive $1,000 and a gift basket during the Rooster Days event.

The winner returns the egg at the festival in exchange for the prize.

This hunt is put on by the Broken Arrow Rotary Club. President Robyn Havener said it's a fun way to get everyone involved and create excitement for the festival.

She said for some people, it's a tradition passed on in families to search for the egg.

"We've got second-generation people that are out hunting with their kids and grandkids to go out and find the egg hunt. Anything that gets families out and excited is just a great community event," Havener said.

She said it's also a chance to encourage local shopping and support nonprofits.

"So that's really the heart is to serve and give back. So that's our part in it, and then we love that it gets the community excited and thinking about the festival, and everything that's coming up," she said.
