More than 100 Tulsa Public School students and teachers presented a plan Friday for strengthening the community.

During a weeklong trip to Washington DC last fall, government leaders challenged the kids in the Close Up program to come up with a solution to a problem in their community.

The students decided to work to get healthier food choices in their cafeterias and school vending machines. They're also trying to create a health and nutrition class. Edison sophomore Jessica Turner: "It's going very well. We're in the process of trying to get a bill passed. So hopefully with our dedication people will listen."

The students and teachers will meet again this summer for a statewide youth leadership summit on the OSU campus.
