OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma -

An Owasso carjacking suspect was taking into custody in Oklahoma City after a short overnight chase.

Levi Luginbyhal was arrested on complaints of possession of a firearm after a former conviction of a felony, possession of an offensive weapon while committing a felony and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Oklahoma City Police Sergeant, Jennifer Wardlow, said early Monday morning officers spotted a black Escalade driving in a parking lot with no headlights.

She said when officers tried to pull the SUV over, it sped off.

Wardlow said officers chased the Escalade to Southeast Grand Boulevard and South Byers Avenue, where the SUV hit a curb. She said they continued two blocks where the vehicle crashed near a home at 600 Southeast 34th Street.

Luginbyhl ran from the accident, but was taken into custody not far from the crash, according to Wardlow.

She said OKC officers checked on Luginbyhal and discovered he was wanted for an Owasso carjacking.

Luginbyhal is accused of stealing the black 2008 Cadillac Escalade from an Owasso man's driveway in December.

According to the victim, Jeff Eshelman, Luginbyhal took the SUV from his driveway and threatened to shoot him.

“He asked me for my keys, kept backing up he said, ‘This isn't anything to get shot over,'” said Eshelman.

He said when he walked outside he saw Luginbyhal inside the Escalade. Eshelman said he grabbed Luginbyhal and asked what was going on. He said that's when Luginbyhal showed the gun.

“He started the Escalade, backed up, I was still here, ran over to my neighbor's house, opened the door, told him I needed a ride, tried to chase after the guy, but a minute or two passed and we couldn't find him,” Eshelman said.

Luginbyhal also has robbery warrants from Tulsa County.
