Phil Forte III scored 20 and Le'Bryan Nash added 17 points and five rebounds as Oklahoma State topped Milwaukee-Wisconsin 82-68 on Friday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Anthony Hickey chipped in with 15 points and Michael Cobbins had a successful return for the Cowboys (4-0) netting 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Redshirt-freshman Jeffrey Carroll scored six on a pair of threes and started in place of Leyton Hammonds who sat out the game with an ankle injury.
The Cowboys didn't get many points off the bench with Tavarius Shine and Jeff Newberry the only reserves to score adding five and four points respectively.
Steve McWhorter led the Panthers (1-3) with 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Milwaukee outrebounded OSU 32-26.
Travis Ford's squad had a hot-shooting first half jumping ahead 15-5 in the first four minutes. The Cowboys shot 48-percent and led 44-27 at the half.
But the Panthers didn't fold in the second half and cut OSU's lead down to 10 with five minutes left. That's when Nash and Forte put the game away from the free throw line.
Oklahoma State faces Oregon State on Monday in Las Vegas for the second round of the MGM Grand Main Event.
