Peacock's Gem Leads RedHawks To Third Straight Win

Brad Peacock fired seven strong innings and the Oklahoma City RedHawks survived a late scare from the Nashville Sounds to win 6-4 before 8,889 at Greer Stadium Saturday night.

The RedHawks were able to score right away in the top of the first inning. Jonathan Villar led off with a double, and two batters later, Villar scored when Jimmy Paredes hit into a fielder's choice.

Similar to the last game, the Sounds (28-55) would also score in the first inning, taking the lead. A Caleb Gindl single tied it up, and Blake Lalli followed with a sac fly to put Nashville in front 2-1.

Peacock would turn things around after that inning, shutting out the Sounds over his final six frames. He turned in his fourth-straight quality start, tossing a season-high seven innings. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned, and Peacock (3-2) tied a season high with nine strikeouts while walking just one Nashville hitter.

After the second run scored in the first inning, Peacock retired 14 of the next 15 hitters he faced, including 10 straight at one point. Only one runner reached scoring position against him after the first, and none got as far as second base after the second inning.

The RedHawks regained the lead in the fourth inning when Che-Hsuan Lin delivered a two-run, two-out single to make it 3-2.

Oklahoma City scored twice more in the sixth. With a runner at first base, Paredes singled to right field, where Gindl would commit a two-base fielding error, allowing Marwin Gonzalez to score. Brandon Laird followed with an RBI double to score Paredes and extend the lead to 5-2.

Laird finished with 2-for-4 two doubles and now has collected four straight multi-hit games.

Villar brought home another run in the seventh on fielder's choice, giving the RedHawks their largest lead of the night at 6-2.

Things seemed to be well in hand with the RedHawks still leading 6-2 with none on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning. After the next two batters reached base, Hainley Statia sent a line drive to shallow right-center field, just out of George Springer's reach to score the pair and bring the tying run to the plate.

The RedHawks then called on lefty Wade LeBlanc to face pinch-hitter Hunter Morris. After falling behind 3-0 to Morris, LeBlanc threw a pair of strikes to push the count full.

On the next pitch, Morris sent a soft broken-bat flare to second base. Villar bare-handed the ball on a bounce behind the bag and fired a dart to first base just in time to get the out and end the game.

Sounds starting pitcher Chris Narveson pitched a season-high six innings, but lost for the third time in his last four starts. Narveson (1-4) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

The RedHawks and Sounds will finish their series at 6:35 p.m.
