The first game of Bedlam softball was over in just over an hour and 20 minutes, as No. 1 Oklahoma shook off a slow start to ride a home run barrage to a 10-1, five-inning win over Oklahoma State Friday night.
The Cowgirls got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when with two outs, Tarah Ettinger hit a triple down the rightfield line, and a batter later, Samantha Chrisman brought her home on a base hit to right to put OSU up 1-0 early.
In the third inning, the Sooners responded in a big way. After the Sooners scored two runs thanks to two errors by OSU shortstop Gessenia DeLaCruz, Oklahoma loaded the bases for Keilani Ricketts, who blasted a grand slam to centerfield. The slam gave the Sooners a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, OU's Lauren Chamberlain roped a home run down the left field line one pitch after pulling a ball just foul to left.
Then, in the top of the fifth, Shelby Pendley led off the inning with a solo shot to right. After a Jessica Shults single, Brittany Williams put the finishing touches on the blowout with a two-run homer.
Ricketts went the distance in the circle for Oklahoma to pick up the win. Kat Espinosa took the loss for the Cowgirls.
The two teams are back in action Saturday at noon in Norman.
