Oklahoma State freshman guard Marcus Smart was named to the Naismith early-season watch list Wednesday.
Smart was one of the top guard recruits in the country last year, and was already beginning his college career in Stillwater with high expectations.
Other notable players joining Smart on the watch list are Doug McDermott (Creighton), Cody Zeller (Indiana), Jeff Withey (Kansas), CJ McCollum (Lehigh) and James Michael McAdoo (North Carolina).
The Naismith Award is given annually to the most outstanding college basketball player in the country. Recent winners include Kevin Durant (Texas), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Blake Griffin (OU) and Anthony Davis (Kentucky). No OSU player has ever won the award.
