The Oklahoma State Cowgirls took a commanding lead in the first half against the Wichita State Shockers in the second round of the Women's NIT Sunday and cruised to a 63-44 win.
The opening of the first half was a hard-fought contest, with the squads heading into the final seven minutes of the half tied 16-16, but that's when the Cowgirls' took control of the game. Oklahoma State snapped off 13 consecutive points over the next four minutes, part of a 16-2 run to close the second half with a comfortable 31-18 lead.
The Cowgirls snapped off a quick six points to open the second half, giving them a 19-point lead less than five minutes into the closing half.
However, the Shockers wouldn't go down without a fight, and snapped off a 20-5 run – including five from Jazimen Gordon – to cut the deficit to just eight points just seven minutes later. However, Oklahoma State answered with a 21-6 run of its own to close the game and secure a third-round berth.
Tiffany Bias set the pace for Cowgirls, finishing with a game-high 21 points and five assists, with Toni Young finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 boards and Liz Donohoe scoring 10 and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Gordon was the only Wichita State player to score in double-figures, notching 10 points on a 3-of-4 shooting performance, while the rest of the squad shot 15-of-47 from the floor.
The Cowgirls will now take a four days before their next WNIT game, hosting the Missouri State Bears at 7 p.m. Thursday.
