A barking dog awakened a family early Tuesday morning when a fire swept through a mobile home near S.E. 59th Street and Eastern in Oklahoma City.
The seven people inside the mobile home said the dog woke them up around 2:30 a.m. They discovered the mobile home was on fire and quickly escaped.
Paramedics rushed two family members to the hospital with burns to their bodies. All seven family members received medical treatment after the fire, but the condition of one family member is only getting worse.
The family told News 9 the father has been downgraded to critical condition.
"It's just sad. Hopefully he is okay. Everyone is praying for him," said Melissa, the man's sister-in-law.
Priscilla, the mother of the home arrived around 9 a.m. to see what she could not see in the early morning darkness.
"After I see this, now I am glad we did get out alive," she said.
Priscilla says she busted out a window to free her family trapped by flames inside the home.
"That's how the kids and me got out of there. It was not through the doors cause it was engulfed in flames," Priscilla said.
Priscilla received cuts from broken glass in the window, but no other injuries. Unfortunately, her husband received burns to his body just before the flames ripped through the rest of their mobile home near S.E. 59th and Eastern.
The reality of the situation began to set in by late morning.
"You can see there is nothing salvageable there. This was actually in the living room," Priscilla said.
The family says all of their clothes, pictures, and recent Christmas presents were lost in the fire. Now the family is saying a prayer the flames spared their pet cat and hope the father makes a quick recovery.
Firefighters are trying to determine what started the fire.
