STILLWATER, Oklahoma – OSU busted out the full pads for the first time all year in what coach Mike Gundy called a good practice on Tuesday.
The players moved inside the stadium and went at it for about three hours.
Gundy said the offense was moving at a good pace, but the defense has also been a pleasant surprise so far.
"Athletically, we're further along now than we have been in the last six years (on defense)," Gundy said. "There's some inexperience there. I kind of use the term ‘no-name players,' but they move around really well."
Gundy has always had roots in the offense, being a former quarterback and offensive coordinator. Many fans still remember the image of Gundy sitting on an equipment chest planning out plays while his defense was on the field several years ago.
But according to Gundy, defense is his first priority.
"I'm obviously comfortable with the experience we have on offense; we'll move the ball," he said. "I spend most of my time in practice with the defense anyway, and I enjoy that part of it."
