OKLAHOMA CITY -- The suspect in an early Monday morning drive-by shooting died following a pursuit which led officers on a high speed chase through the Oklahoma City metropolitan area early Monday morning.
According to Chris West of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the suspect, who has yet to be identified, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a neighborhood near N.W. 42nd and Portland Ave.
The incident started when officers were called around 1:45 a.m. to investigate a call of shots fired near I-240 and May Ave.
Troopers located the suspect's vehicle and were led on a chase with speeds topping 100 miles per hour.
West says a trooper used his vehilce to stop the suspect's vehicle on north Portland, and the chase ended at the Crest Park Apartments at N.W. 42nd and Portland.
The suspect exited his vehicle and fired at the pursuing troopers and officers who returned fire, West said.
The suspect escaped and fled into a nearby neighborhood where he was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted wound.
The Oklahoma City Police Department is investigating the incident.
