OKLAHOMA CITY -- The federal government is recalling more than two million baby cribs. The recall includes cribs sold between 2000 and 2009 made by seven different companies.
Apparently when the drop-down sides fail, they can trap babies, or cause them to fall out or even suffocate.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled more than nine million cribs over the past five years and is now working on stricter mandatory standards and banning drop-side cribs altogether.
"This latest recall is part of our effort to clean up the marketplace of unsafe cribs," said Inez Tenenbaum with the Consumer Product Safety Commission
The CPSC said the new mandatory standards will be in place by the end of the year. Consumers are encouraged to get free repair kits from the manufacturers to disable the drop-sides.
