Police have taken a suspect in custody after a roughly seven hour standoff in southwest Oklahoma City.
Just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 6600 block of south Harvey Ave after receiving reports of a woman running in the neighborhood with a gun. Police say the woman told officers she was escaping a domestic situation.
Tiffany Martinez lives nearby and was shocked when she walked out of her home.
"I went outside and saw what was going on and there were five cops behind a tree," she said.
Police say a man with several weapons refused to come out, forcing them to block off streets and attempt to negotiate with the suspect.
"We've got a gentleman in the house with additional firearms," said Captain Nelson with the Oklahoma City Police Department. "We do have domestic charges against him at this time, so we are just trying to get him to come out peacefully."
"They're saying this is the police, come out with your hands up and he still won't come out with his hands up," said Martinez.
But now he has. Police have taken the suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Christopher Brian Gass, in custody by force. No word on how it went down or the condition of the suspect at this time.
Gass was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on domestic assault charges.
