HARRAH, Oklahoma -- A large wildfire burned at least three mobile homes near the Oklahoma County-Pottawatomie County border Wednesday afternoon, leaving at least one family with no place to live.
Firefighters from Harrah, Choctaw, McLoud, and Oklahoma City responded to 3351 S. Pottawatomie County Road shortly after 3 p.m. The flames burned more than 20 acres before crews were able to contain the blaze. Even after the wildfire was extinguished, firefighters spent a few hours putting out hot spots.
The wildfire destroyed three mobile homes, two of which were vacant. One family was left homeless.
"Right now I am ready to fall down and cry," said Donny Palmer. he lost his home of 20 years. "I am trying to hold it down for my wife and keep it together as much as I can, but it's a great loss."
Palmer also lost his car the fire. He says his dog, Duke, is also missing.
Oklahoma County Commissioner Brian Maughan says firefighters believe the fire started in a wooded area behind a mobile home park. No one was injured.
Maughan is asking anyone who wants to help the families affected to call his office at (405) 713-1502. People can also deliver clothes, furniture, appliances and other items to the District Two facility at 7105 S. Anderson Road.
