Sapulpa Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a pickup in front of AmeriGas Thursday morning. AmeriGas is located in the 6200 block of New Sapulpa Road.
Police said workers called them after they discovered the body of the woman in the truck. The employees said they did not recognize the woman and that she didn't work there.
"They do not know this individual, they do not work here, so that's why we're trying to kind of ascertain what's going on at this point," said Sapulpa Police Lieutenant Troy Foreman.
Officers said there are no obvious signs of foul play.
"We're not sure whether this is going to be medical or something else. The M.E. will be taking the body and they will be doing an autopsy," Foreman said.
Investigators said it appears the woman drove herself to the parking lot. They said she may have been inside the truck since Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the truck's engine was turned off and the doors were locked. The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was found in the backseat, according to authorities at the scene.
Detectives said this is a good reminder to call police whenever you see something suspicious.
"If you see a vehicle that is out of place, check it out, or at least call us early on so at least we can come check it out," Foreman said. "It's not just a run-of-the-mill. It is somewhat suspicious to us just cause of the circumstance - backseat, truck's locked up - so that's why we're gonna work this, because it's an unattended death, so we are gonna work this as an unattended death until we can get more answers,"
Police have notified the woman's family but have not released her name.
Police are waiting for the medical examiner's report to determine the cause of death.
